Traveling Classroom
Sponsors and Helpers
The following organizations and individuals helped make the Traveling Classroom possible.
Northshore School District enabled the development of this project by awarding me an educational grant that provides a substitute teacher and pays for communications to the Internet. The Northshore School District extends from the north shore of Lake Washington, not far from Seattle, Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains. It is a wonderful place to live, and it is well known for quality education. Award-winning students and programs substantiate this reputation.
Special thanks to Station 1 and George Spanos who donated his time and energy to design this website, and to GoGreece.com for hosting the Traveling Classroom. This project would not have happened without George's help. Station 1 is a Web Presence Provider specializing in web site development and hosting. GoGreece.com was created to assist Internet users seeking information on Greece, and it is a collection of information and resources useful to any "cybertraveler" to Greece.

Traveling Software and Mark Eppley, Chairman of the Board, encouraged this project from its inception and provided their LapLink 7.5 and WebEx products, which make it easy to move files through cyberspace. LapLink provides on-the-go professionals with everything needed to stay connected. LapLink's new Xchange Agent brings automation to the next level, letting you synchronize one, or many folders, automatically. With its easy to use Wizard setup, drag and drop editing and integrated preview, Xchange Agent makes keeping up-to-date effortless. WebEx provides offline Web browsing by downloading important news and information from the Internet or corporate Intranets for reading wherever and whenever you want, even on a boat in the middle of the Aegean Sea.
Casio, Inc. and TheDigitalStore.Com provided us with the wonderful Casio QV-10a plus digital camera which we are using to transmit pictures during our trip. The Casio digital camera has an LCD screen so that we can preview our photos instantly. We can then save images onto our computer or delete them and take new ones. Casio, Inc. , the leader in digital photography, produces several digital cameras and photo printers. TheDigitalStore.Com , the digital products superstore, currently features Casio products.
Dr. Jeanette Dunn graciously provided the use of Zoe Zoe, a 41-foot ketch moored in Mikrolimano, the historical military port of ancient Athens. She is also providing her services as skipper and official guide (she has sailed Grecian waters many times). Dr. Dunn is the Executive Director of the Foundation for Care Management, a nonprofit research and education organization headquartered in Kirkland, Washington. She is a well-known lecturer and publisher of medical periodicals and books.
Chuck and Karen Mitchell loaned us a powerful Dell Latitude LM-P133 laptop computer and operating software, which make it possible to do what we are doing on the Internet. The Mitchells are parents of Woodmoor Elementary students and avid supporters of education through modern technology.
Yiorgos (George) Asimellis gave us permission to use photographs from his website Images from Greece. Yiorgos is a PhD candidate at the Electro-Optics Technology Center, Tufts University. His interests are optical pattern recognition, nonlinear optics and, on a personal level, photography. He was born on the island of Lesvos and is an enthusiastic supporter of education.
